Despite being a popular buzzword in education, STEM still has not quite aroused interests in science and inspired confidence in science subjects among students in Hong Kong. What is missing in Hong Kong's science education? Science is different from other subjects in a sense that a special pedagogy is required to relate abstractions to the students' everyday reality. Instead of focusing on simply drilling for exam, science teachers should adopt a fun, interactive and inspiring approach to ignite and cultivate students’ interest and passion in science, with their daily lives as reference points. Active learning strategies involving technology is the missing link in Hong Kong. This presentation aims to share and demonstrate such strategies and practices that are conducive to a more engaging learning experience in science education.

STEM近年雖然在香港成為了廣受討論的教育議題,但卻未能非常有效地提升學生對學習科學的興趣和信心。講者從這個角度切入,思考到香港科學教育的不足,認為科學需要運用與其他學科不同的教學法,幫助學生將抽象的概念與日常生活聯繫起來。相比起專注考試和評分制度的傳統模式,科學教師應該採用趣味性、互動性啟發性較高的教學法,結合生活例子作為參考,以「主動學習」(Active Learning) 彌補現時科學教育的缺失,並且培養學生對科學的興趣和熱誠。本講座中,講者將會分享和展示具趣味性和有效令學生投入科學學習的教學方法和實踐。
